Sonoma Little League announces ‘Adopt a Tree’ to support upkeep of playing fields
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TO SONOMA INDEX-TRIBUNE
Sonoma Little League Announces “Adopt a Tree” Legacy Fundraiser to Support Hughes and Teeter Fields Maintenance and Long Term Upkeep
SONOMA, Calif., [Monday, March 2nd] Sonoma Little League announced the launch of Adopt a Tree, a legacy giving fundraiser supporting continued field maintenance and long term upkeep at Hughes and Teeter Fields, while restoring safe, healthy trees along the outfield fence line.Last year, Hughes Field was red tagged due to massively overgrown poplar trees along the outfield fence that had died, become hollow, and began leaning out over the ballfield. The County has since cut the trees down. Through collaborative efforts with the City of Sonoma and Sonoma Little League, 21 new trees have now been purchased and are ready to be planted to restore the outfield perimeter and create long term shade and stability.
This project has been driven by community volunteers and local expertise. Ron Wellander, owner of Ron Wellander Landscape Architecture, Joe and Jared Lunny of Lunny Engineering, Barry Kiser, and Andrew Johnson of Johnson's Tree and Garden Services have already donated their time, equipment and expertise to grind down the tree stumps, remove the stumps and root balls, and help regrade the site for the new trees.
Adopt a Tree offers community members the opportunity to sponsor one of the 21 newly purchased trees. Each adopted tree includes a permanent plaque installed at the base of the tree with the donor’s family name, business name, or dedication message. The fundraiser is designed to honor Sonoma legacy families and businesses while creating lasting improvements at the little league baseball field.
Each tree has a starting donation of $5,000 and will be handled in a Dutch Auction Format, meaning the adoption amount will decrease each month until all trees are adopted.
Families and businesses do not need to wait. Trees can be reserved immediately at any price point. Availability and placement options will change as trees are adopted, so early commitments secure the best selection.
Funds raised through Adopt a Tree will support:
Continued field maintenance and ongoing upkeep at Hughes Field
Safety improvements and facility needs
Sustaining a volunteer run nonprofit youth baseball program for Sonoma families
How to Adopt a Tree - Community members interested in adopting a tree should email Joel Green at
